Diagnosing Erectile Dysfunction

There  are a lot of causes of erectile dysfunction, there are some different tests your doctor may use to understand the condition and determine its reason. Only after the reason of ED is determined can it be effectively cured.

Before trying any tests, your doctor will review your medical history and perform a thorough physical examination. The doctor will also "know" you about your personal and sexual past. Some of these tests will be very personal and may feel bad. Also, it is leading that you answer these questions truely. The questions can be:

·         What medications or pills are you taking?

·         Are you smoking?

·         Do you snore while sleeping or have other things of sleep apnea?

·         Have you had any psychological problems for example depression?

·         When did you first aware of symptoms of ED?

·         What are the frequency, quality, and time of your erections ?

·         Do/did you have erections at night or during the morning?

·         What sexual ways do you try?

·         Do you have more than one sex partner?

·         If you have more than one partner, do you feel ED with one or both of them?

After test and interview, your doctor may then order any of these tests:

·         Complete blood count (CBC): This is a  blood tests that, , can find  the presence of anemia. Anemia is caused by a low red blood cell amount

·         Blood glucose (sugar): This test can help your doctor understand if you might have diabetes, which can increases to ED.

·         Liver and kidney tests: These  tests may Show  whether ED may be due to your liver or kidneys functioning not properly.

·         Lipid profile: This blood test shows the level of lipids (fats), for example cholesterol

·         Thyroid test: An overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) may be reason of ED by producing an excess of thyroid hormones. Thyroid hormones help regulate the degrees of sex hormones, and a deficiency in these hormones may be reason  or cause ED.

·         Blood hormone studies: Testosterone amounts in the blood may be showed to see if an abnormality is present. If your testosterone level is not enough, your doctor may advice testing levels of prolactin

·         Nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT): This test shows a man's erectile function when he is sleeping. Normally, a man will have five or six erections during sleep. A lack of these erections may show there is an issue with nerve function or circulation to the penis. The test can be performed using a lot of different ways, including the snap gauge way and the strain gauge method. The snap gauge method is performed by wrapping three plastic bands of varying strength around the penis. Erectile function is then measured based on which of the4  bands breaks

·         Penis biothesiometry: This test indicates the use of electromagnetic vibration to sshow sensitivity and nerve function. Low sensitivity to these vibrations may indicate nerve problems.

·         Vasoactive injection: During this test, an erection is produced by injecting clear solutions that can be reason the blood vessels to dilate (enlarge), allowing blood to enter the penis.

·         PSA: This test may be abnormal according to the prostate cancer, enlargement, or infection. These situations and their cures may complicate ED.
