The penis is the man sex organ, reaching its full dimension during puberty. Extra for its sexual function, the penis is an organ for urine to leave the body.
The penis has several parts:

• Glans (head) of the penis: In uncircumcised males, the glans is covered with purple, moist tissue named mucosa. In circumcised males, the foreskin is  removed and the mucosa on the glans turns into dry skin.

Corpus cavernosum: Two parts of tissue running along the sides of the organ. Blood fills this tissue to have an erection.

Corpus spongiosum: A column of sponge-like tissue running along the rear of the penis and ending at the glans penis; it becomes full with blood during an erection, keeping the urethra

The urethra runs through the corpus spongiosum, showing urine out of the body.
An erection results from differences in blood in the penis. When a male feels sexually aroused, nerves can be a reason of penis blood vessels to expand. More blood flows in and low flows out of the penis, hardening the part in the corpus cavernosum.
